According to the inside scoop from Business insider, Facebook is turning to a former executive at Google and Xiaomi to lead its virtual reality business.
Hugo Barra was officially announced as part of the team by the CEO of Facebook himself Mark Zuckerberg.
“Hugo shares my belief that virtual and augmented reality will be the next major computing platform. They’ll enable us to experience completely new things,” Zuckerberg wrote in a formal post heralding the hire.
The news comes just days after Barra officially announced his departure from Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi, where he has worked as the company’s VP for more than three years.
“…what I’ve realized is that the last few years of living in such a singular environment have taken a huge toll on my life and started affecting my health,” Barra says. “My friends, what I consider to be my home, and my life are back in Silicon Valley.”
